Hello and welcome! I am Shelly Flatgard, a stylist/business owner rooted to our community for 25+ years.
I know everyone deserves a minute to themselves in our very busy lives. I love providing you services to make you feel relaxed and pampered, while also valuing your time. I provide a friendly, comfortable atmosphere where you can decompress and enjoy a little "me time".
I’ve seen a lot of hair trends in the past 25 years. Many new styles are a twist on the old styles and I love interpreting this and bringing that vision to life. By attending classes twice a year I keep my skills and verbiage current with the trends, but always have the expertise and knowledge of past experience as a base.
I specialize in low maintenance gray coverage color that gives you the absolute best grow out possible. I believe your color and haircut should not only look good going out the door but should look the best it can in between your salon visits. I place a lot of focus on texture in your haircut to balance the natural weight in order to ensure a seamless grow out. In the past 8 years my focus has been training new talent to understand this technique and replicate it in our salon. When you are sitting in my chair you may notice me explaining processes and formulations to my associates, who work hand in hand with me to create your final look. I love passing on my skills to a new generation of stylists.
While I truly enjoy my craft and leading my team, I am a home-body at heart. I love being home or at our lake place relaxing on the deck or sitting in the fishing boat with my husband. I love to run, bike, hike, snowshoe and walk outside any chance I get. Doing these activities with a few good friends is most often the highlight of my week. I believe sunshine fuels my soul and a little friend time fills my cup. My schedule is a little less hectic since both of my children have graduated high school and are settling into their adult lives. So I take advantage of my new found freedom by being outside as much as the MN weather allows!

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley and I have been a hair stylist for over 11 years, all at Salon 209. My family lives on a hobby farm outside of Thief River Falls. I graduated cosmetology school from the Professional Salon Academy in Bemidji, MN after going to NCTC in Thief River Falls and earning my AA degree.
As a wife and mom of two young children, I know how hard it is to take a minute for yourself and how much of a treat it is when you finally get that opportunity! My goal is to not only help you feel your best about your hair, but also to give you the experience you deserve! Whether you are in the midst of graduating high school or college, getting married, raising littles that quickly turn into adults and leave the nest, or enjoying the grandkids – I want you to feel relaxed, cared for, and leave my chair feeling beautiful.
I specialize in finding a color that works best for you as an individual. If you’re looking for something low maintenance that you only have to come in a handful of times a year for, we can find it! If you love coming in to get pampered and enjoy a color that requires a little more upkeep, I love that as well! I don’t ever want to give you a color or style that isn’t conducive to your lifestyle.
Over the past 11 years, I have honed my craft of blonding and foiling and truly have a passion for it. I put a lot of value in having good communication with my guests to aim for the best possible outcome!
When I am not at the salon, I am busy running my kids to their activities! My husband owns a gym in Thief River Falls and also stays busy helping people feel their best! I have a son that shares my love for baseball and reading. My daughter shares my love for hair, fun and animals. We spend a lot of time with school activities, sports and enjoying time with family.

My name is Kasey! I graduated from The Salon Professional Academy in Fargo, ND. I started at Salon 209 in February 2021 and have loved every second of it! My passion is to make every client feel beautiful and confident in their own eyes. My favorite services are foiling and styling, but I love to be challenged in other areas of cosmetology as well. When I am not in the salon you can catch me shopping, getting coffee and when the weather is nice spending time with friends and family at the lake!

Trish Shierts

Hey there! My name is Trish Shierts and I have been in the beauty industry professionally for 16 plus years. My husband and I moved to Thief River Falls recently with our two boys from Park Rapids, MN but before that came from St. Cloud, MN where I graduated beauty school from Regency Beauty Institute.
I have always had a passion for everything hair and makeup. I graduated from beauty school in 2008 and hit the ground running and have had many opportunities to work and learn with some amazing hairstylists.
I have been a professional cosmetologist for 16 years. Before that I was a young girl who ever since I could remember, played with makeup and wanted the “big fancy hair”. I have been asked occasionally “Why do you do hair?” Often I answer with “because it makes people happy” or “it’s what I love to do”. But recently I had an opportunity to witness, not for the first time, my reason for becoming a hairstylist. I do it for the young, shy girls who come in uncertain at first and leave beaming. I do it for the tired mother who needs a moment of peace and connection. I do it for the people that need someone to cry with, talk with or laugh with. I become whomever my client needs me to be and I do it with my whole heart. Being a hairstylist isn’t just my “job” it is my whole life and I would choose it over and over again.
I specialize in high-lift blondes but also love any kind of color experience. I’ve always felt that your hair can be the expression of your inner voice whether it be loud or calm and quiet. I have experience in several fields, some of which are lived in color, color corrections, hair extensions and bridal/formal hair and makeup. I love to challenge myself and continue to grow and learn. Lauren Melby

My name is Lauren! I finished cosmetology school from The Salon Professional Academy in Fargo, ND. I started at Salon 209 in April 2023. I am passionate about making people feel confident and happy. I also enjoy every one of you in my chair, I love getting to know you! I really like being a Salon 209 stylist, we offer so many different services and if you’re like me, I’m high maintenance so that I can be low maintenance at the same time!
Some of my favorite things I offer are coloring services, I especially like lived in blondes and bright blondes/brondes! I also do malibus, mens and women’s haircuts, deep conditioning treatments, facial waxing, eyebrow laminations, and a few other services!
A little bit about me, l'm from Gonvick, MN and I currently still live there. So I have a bit of a drive to work on the daily. I have two younger sisters, that I’m very close with. I like to go shopping and getting my nails done and being outside or at the lake with friends and family in my free time!

Hi! I’m Haylee! I graduated from Mstate Cosmetology in Wadena, MN. I started at Salon 209 in February 2024. While I'm just getting started in the industry, I have found my passion in color transformations and men’s haircuts. I love seeing my clients visions come to life! I’m making it a priority to learn everything about color transformations every chance I get. Little bit about me: I am originally from Roseau. In my free time I love to be outside with my boyfriend and dogs, hanging out with family and friends or cozying up with a book, In the summer I love watching my boyfriend Baja race!

Hey all, I’m Payton, I am from Oklee, Minnesota and I am Salon 209’s newest stylist!
My goal as a stylist is to have you leave feeling confident and uplifted, all while giving you a relaxing experience.
I recently graduated from The Salon Professional Academy of Fargo in August 2024. I have found my passion making people feel like the best version of themselves! I’m working on building clientele and I love learning new techniques. My favorite services so far are blonding and coloring services.
When I’m not behind the chair you can find me spending my time on the ranger, fishing, and I love sunset walks! I also may have a bit of a shopping addiction even though my closet is already full. I always try to spend my extra time with family and friends!

Kiana Jacobson
ESTHETICIAN/LASH ARTIST
As a girl in her early 20s, I am big on being high maintenance to be low maintenance in my day to day life. So many of my services can offer that to you such as lash extensions, waxing and spray tans!
I believe heavily in taking care of your skin and creating healthy habits with it. I find joy in giving product recommendations and finding out what works best for your skin and lifestyle. Same thing goes for lashes, I am huge on making sure to wash them and keeping them clean, especially with lash extensions. Your lash health is just as important as your skin and hair health!
I really pride myself in my waxing services. There is a misconception that hair removal will make your hair grow back thicker and darker. That is not the case, it's the exact opposite with epilation hair removal and even depilation. I really enjoy informing clients on the different cycles of hair growth.
I grew up in a small town called Badger. I would consider it a tight knit community where everybody knows each other and isn’t afraid to help when needed. I think growing up in a place like that has made me comfortable in being open and honest and more empathetic and relaxed in my day to day.
When I am not at the salon, you can find me either in a field hunting, at the river fishing or spending time with my family. My boyfriend really got me into all types of hunting about 6 years ago and now it is a favorite and really rewarding experience. But you will never catch me filleting a fish or field dressing a deer!
My clients are so deserving of an hour of quiet, so when they come in for their appointment, I create a calm and quiet environment and let them lead the way on conversation or silence.

Hi there, I’m Andy, Licensed Massage Therapist at Salon 209. I received my Oregon state license in 2019 where I massaged and taught until moving back to TRF in 2022. Salon 209 has a wonderful group of people working, and I look forward to seeing them each day. I routinely do a Swedish massage with a range of trigger point therapy techniques from multiple modalities to make the massage a more personalized experience.
